At 40 dives, I would just go diving. That's the most fun, which is what it's all about.

EDIT Sort of assumed you would have Nitrox and drysuit experience. These would be bloody useful. Then just dive.

'NOTHER EDIT Don't pay for a drysuit course! I am sure someone here will help you. "Add on" drysuit and DSMB courses should be illegal in the UK!!!

Don't do another course. Go diving.

If you don't have a nitrox ticket, that's probably a reasonable idea if you must must must do a course, PADI basic nitrox should fit nicely with the training you have already, gives you access to safer gas for the impending sea dives.

You could arrange a few sea dives as part of the course with most PADI instructors with a decent view of customer service, should give you a safe start to open water diving in the sea with a bit more info than you might get by just signing on a boat somewhere and giving it a go.

Given your location, there's several shops locally who can arrange this kind of thing.

    Digs.

    Do more dives.

Do courses that you need to do - if you want to do a particular type of diving.

So - assuming you're sticking with PADI for now - consider the Deep spec, and perhaps Wreck (in the sea).

When you're confident in the water and know that you don't know everything ( ) - do the Rescue/EFR course

    and keep diving.

On the money there - join a club for some guidance re: UK sea dives. You might want some kind of tuition in a dry suit if you've never dived one.

The above advice is quite sound really - I was in a similar position about 2 years ago. What did I do?

    I went diving.

I then did the PADI Nitrox course followed by the PADI Rescue Diver Course, which imvho is the best PADI course I have done. I then went on to do the Deep specialty purely for insurance purposes.

You say you aren't a badge collector so get yourself booked on some trips and get out into the salty stuff. There's shedloads of people on here who will be more than happy to dive with you and introduce you to our fantastic coastal dives.

There's also plenty of shore based stuff that doesnt break the bank balance and offers you a nice "intro" to the salty stuff.

Peter: I'll tell you what it's not for, son. And when I do, you'll understand why I can never go back to Sea World.

Others have said it, but... just go diving (although Nitrox is worth it). We are in Wakefield if you are looking for trips out of Seahouses, St Abbs, Brid.... or further afield if you want.

Go diving, with a few people or regular buddy, lots on YD don't know what they are like though.

Clubs are not for everyone, work for some.

    Have fun dive safe!!
    Resistance is futile!!!
