Angry Windows XP SP2

Well, its gone down in the records as being the windows update that resided on my machine for the least amount of time (including the atrocious Win ME!) - the networking facility is totally screwed!

The non techies may want to switch off now ...

I use an ADSL router / hardware firewall that acts as a DHCP server, allocating IP addresses to the networked machines in my office at home. Upgraded two machines with the new service pack and BLAM - the DHCP is somehow blocked and therefore both machines show a NEW error - Limited Connectivity on the network! (FFS!)

Messed around for a few hours and then uninstalled - problem fixed. Did a little research and it seems loads of users are experiencing the same probs.

Yet another BETA test for Microsoft!

Read the reviews first

As an admin person you should have known better.
Sorry. we have all done the upgrade form hell bit.

XP SP2 is probably worth a new version no. in its own right.

I am not taking the plunge yet as I do not want my home network screwed up. I use a PC with Internet connection sharing with a USB network adaptor connecting to a cable modem. The PC has Zone Alarm as a firewall.

Our company's internal support has warned all 165,000 employees that anyone installing it on a company machine is on their own. Apart from DHCP problems, it also wrecks VPN & VNC for home workers.

Great craic.

I hadn't realised that the peat industry had become so mechanised!

(And for all the PC lot, I'm allowed to say that on account of me being Irish so there!)

Can't say I've had any problems with every new OS or upgrade on my machine.

MacOS 8.3 Yep OK
OSX 10.1 Yep OK
OSX 10.2 Yep OK
OSX 10.3.5 oh no.... oops my mistake, yep works fine.

I think I see where you are all going wrong
