Exclamation SKYPE & Pamela: Free Telephone Calls & Voice Messaging !!
Any of you guys tried Skype.com?

Do you have you PC connected to either cable or broadband at home (or if you work from home a LAN)?

Have you got a microphone (if you haven't got a mic yet, - BUY one, they're cheap - you can use your headphones by plugging them into the mic jack-socket of your PC and speaking into one of the ear-pieces)?

Fancy having free phone calls between you and anyone else with a similar set up ANYWHERE in the world (good for talking to relatives/friends/loved ones abroad without racking up massive phone bills)?

Skype has been around a while, but it has mainly been word of mouth bar a couple of mag articles.

Bren and I had a play tonight. Apparently I was loud and clear, but Bren's mic was less than satisfactory

Perhaps we could get Skype tags as additions to MSN/AOL/ICQ etc. in our profiles.

Being based in the Philippines and having family in the UK it saves an absolute fortune. Not as clear as a normal phone but the price is right. I get a lot of feed back with certain people - I have a feeling this would clear up if we had a head set or even earphones rather than the powerbooks built in stuff.

You can cure a lot of the problems with decent terminal equipment, it does of course help to use an operator who's either massively over dimensioned (at least 100%) or who uses MPLS.....

Well I've had two long convo's tonight with Ade K and my oppo Mark in Brighton and they both came through as loud and clear as toll (normal PSTN phone service) quality! With the added benefit that I can turn up the volume coz it's coming through my PC.

All I need to do now is go and get a decent set of headphones/mic tomorrow from PC World and we're good to go!

If you're using headphones (which you can use as a mic - use the right ear piece to talk into - if you don't have a mic, like I did tonight), just plug the headphones into the mic socket on your PC, not the headphones' socket.

I've got family in Ozz, Cananda and the US, and mates all over the far-flung - so all I need to do now is give them my SKYPE log-in name (based on my email address) and my phone calls are now are gratis/free and for the use of! And I can conf-call others in too! Happy days!
