Arrow How to make a 'Region-free' DVD...

To make a region free disc, download a program called DVDDecrypter, from www.dvddecrypter.com. It's freeware.

Use the program to create an ISO image, then re-burn the ISO image to a blank DVD. The burnt image will be region-free and play on any DVD player.

ah yes but the big question is how do we fit contents of dual layered "little britain" onto 1 4.7 Gb as my vaio with dvd burner just spits it out saying disc contents too small

Of course, this is all in the interests of personal backups of your non-copyright material.

You need a program called DVD Shrink, its free and will auto strip out any un-needed stuff like extra languages etc before compressing the film to fit. You can can choose to also take out other stuff from the disc to decrease the compression.

Indeed. It's free and is at www.dvdshrink.com

A friend of mine is currently backing up the Luton branch of Blockbuster. They didn't ask him to - he's just being altruistic.

Laters,
Janos

PS - There are some very good free rental-by-post deals available at the moment. If you subscribe to a few you can get DVDs by post FOC for several months.

I started with DVD Decrypter and then DVD2One to shrink it to fit on a 4.7GB disk, but with DVD Shrink, you can rip and then burn in one go, whilst also converting to region-free if you wish, and you only need to have the space available for the contents whilst this process is working, i.e. once finished, simply delete the contents of the folder you specified in the set-up. You can copy an entire disk (and shrink it to fit on a standard 4.7GB disk) but it does give you the option to ignore foreign sub-titles/audio and variuos other extra on the disk, allowing you less compression to the main movie.
It's a great program, and very easy to use, although the one thing it can't so (much to my despair) is convert a NTSC DVD to PAL. Not something that will affect most people who have a region free DVD player, but my TV can't play NTSC and my DVD player, although region free, does not have RGB out, which means NTSC discs play in black & white!
Anyway, if you have problems getting a copy, let me know and I'll send it to you as last time I tried, none of the listed sites made it easy to find.
Regards
Martin

Try DVDSanta you can down load a free 30 day version that gives you the choice between NTSC and PAL
