The iPOD Thread: where's best to Buy? iTunes Library, MP3s, Applications etc.

Just an idea (probably too late now that you ordered one) but did you consider buying one in the US and paying the International Shipping? The exchange rate is 1.90 and electronics are generally cheaper over here, anyways. Hope you got a good deal if you've already bought it. Everyone seems to have them on campus. I really don't see what the big deal is. But then I have the nasty habit of losing expensive pieces of electronics.

Not a bad idea, but time is of the essence now. I might spend some time trying to find a supplier in the US who could get it to me, any suggestions? Probably best to start a newer thread as I need to order it tonight!

Guys,

I need your help here, and I don't have long! I need to get one of those iPod shuffle thingamewhatsits, and I don't have long - like next thursday.

The suggesstion has been made to order from the US, what with exchange rates and all that being good, and me being a tight wad. Problem is can I get one in a week? And if so - where?

Basically I'm going to need an internet jobbie that can take my credit card, and get it to me pronto, allowing for import and customs etc.

Worth asking maybe, see if anyone is working for Apple or something crazy. I was thinking about seeing if I could get discount off amazon (they're selling them for £69) and buying there. Makes sense doesn't it?

Can you get them in from the States?

US RRP for the basic version is $99 (from Apple), so once you factor in the postage / possible import duty / hassle factor, it's probably not worth it.

I was looking at the 512 thingy. Basically 120 tracks jobbie. Can you tell I don't do this very often?

Ebay worth it anyone? Are iPod sellers as good as the diving lot? Or do I need to be warier than normal. I'm not a big fan of what seems to be someone selling 30 iPods which may well have disappeared from a factory somewhere and are now coming out on there when no-one else can get one to me in a week!

Could be tricky - Amazon don't have stock, J&R do not ship outside US/Canada.

But the 1Gb model retails at $149.99 which is £78, factor in express shipping - who will make sure you pay import duty plus handling fees, will you get much change out of the £99 it retails for in the UK?

You could try the UK Apple Store (www.apple.com) select Store then pick UK from the list - they might have them in.

I use allofmp3. They were recently threatened with prosecution in Russia, but it was decided that existing Russian Copyright law required physical media to be involved, and as such did not apply to purely electronic media.
