Arrow The iPOD Thread: where's best to Buy? iTunes Library, MP3s, Applications etc.

I have discovered the RIP function on my software so have this great idea to copy my daughters Cds as MP3s so she just has to take an MP3 player on holiday. The iPOD seems to be very popular - anyone got one and wheres the best deal for a colour screen 40gig unit ???

Thanks from a techno challenged kirky

Why do you want an iPod Photo? Do you need the ability to tote photos around with you and view them on the iPod screen? (Or on a TV if you carry the Photo Dock with you).

A 40Gb 4th Generation iPod comes in at £299 direct from Apple, the iPod Photo weighs in at £359.

The 4G can still be used as an external disk (even bootable if used on a Mac) and will thus store photos if that it was you want to do with it. You can use the Belkin Media Reader, but some prefer to use the Delkin USB Bridge.

I got both my 4G 40Gb and my wife's Mini direct from Apple - mine shipped from the UK, whilst the Mini came directly from China as I had it engraved by Apple (was free until Christmas).

You might find that even the 20Gb unit is more than sufficient, I have ripped almost every CD I own (128k AAC files) and am just scraping 5Gb - for the more Audiophillic out there, 128k does me just fine! )

Just beware the slippery slope of Apple - I currently await the delivery of a shiny new iBook!

Why an Ipod...got one of these for the kids at Christmas - http://www.gwaytech.com.tw/

Plays mp3s, as well as Divx and AVI movies and has 20gb of storage! Back up all your dvds and watch them on the go......save all your photos.
(1 dvd = about 500mb at 320x240)

Also comes with a radio adapter so you can play your music through the car system by tuning in to the right frequency.

Costs about £230......

A seriously smart gadget!

But it is dog ugly compared to the elegant design of the ipod. Got an Ipod mini for one of my nieces just before xmas and it is gorgeous. Thinking of getting one for myself. Direct from Apple. Couldn't find anybody cheaper.
