Thumbs up A Strong Recommendation

Hi all,

Just thought i would bring to everyone's attention this:

Microsoft Anti-Spyware

its not the full release version but from what i have experienced so far it is a great bit of software that works well on its own as well with the likes of Adaware.

I've also used it and don't rate it much to be honest. I know its a beta but it seems to block too many legitimate file downloads for my liking. I'm sticking to Ad Aware and Spybot for the moment.

I think that it is a decent Anti-Spyware application, it's just that Microsoft should concentrate on stopping the crap getting onto the PC in the first place by fixing the travesty that is MS Internet Explorer (or Internet Exploder depending on yur point of view).

Pfft. Anti Spy Software

Thats a laugh isn't it. Microsoft the original Spies have developed software to catch the Crap that they let in the first place..

The funny thing is if we let them, they would have us all surrender our Hard drives and report in daily to them when and where we surf.. Oh we probably do that anyway.

I'm sticking with Linux (Fedora) and Firefox sitting nicely behind a netgear router / firewall. No Anti-Spyware application because No spyware

Angry

I have the most up-to-date version of Adaware and when I ran Microsoft’s new spyware it found stuff that Adaware didn’t, so in my mind it must be doing something right.

I’m not saying Adaware is crap, tbh it and its forum saved me from a very nasty hijack a few months back. I’m just saying its worth having more then one form of defence especially if it isn’t going to cost you anything. I haven’t had any problems with downloads....where have you guys been dl from ?

Also, as this thread has gone this way; why do people always take issue with ms? I don’t understand it.... the stats on % of the OS market can not be wrong:

Quote:
According to the report, "Worldwide Client and Server Operating Environment Market Forecast and Analysis, 2002-2007," Windows desktop OS sales worldwide increased from 93.2 percent of the market in 2001 to 93.8 percent in 2002, accounting for more than $9.75 billion in sales. Various Mac OS versions stalled in second place, with just 2.9 percent of the market (and 2.2 percent of the revenues), although IDC noted that Apple will soon relinquish second place to Linux, which saw desktop growth in 2002 to 2.3 percent of the market.
Source
-|- before I get a backlash of mac os and linux users, I have used both and I can see benefits of both.
People don’t realise how good ms products are until they don’t have them, for your average Joe MS does everything you need (maybe too much!) and from experience the problems with MS products usually come from Joe user who has mucked it up or hasn’t got adequate protection. I’m in the geographical information science (GIS) industry and don’t have the pleasure of using MS products on a daily basis. Instead I work with the best software my industry can supply and it sucks!!! I would love MS to get in on the game just so I could have a more stable and user friendly program.

I also don’t understand people who believe that your OS should be rock solid and impenetrable to all. I mean come on XP has been out since 2001 (and the development started years before that), your seriously expect that a product over 3yrs old will not get hacked or abused by people wishing to make money out of its users.

o.k. rant over, I just wanted to make none computer techie divers aware of a free ms upgrade that could protect them. Not get into the same old MS is crap debate.

- Bogwoppit - i have never seen any offical industry or governement report to back this up... have you?

My bank. I appreciate that the software wasn't written by MS (they just bought out the people who did and re-badged the product) but it seems odd that it blocks common financial data files and doesn't tell you that it has. A bit of an oversight as far as I am concered as many users will pop the software on from recomendations from their friends, find that their online banking is fried and don't know why.

I agree with you generally about MS products though. If the software is so rubbish then why does it have the lions share of the dekstop software market? Probably because there isn't any software out there which is ready to challenge it yet in terms of usability, ease of administration and driver coverage.

As its beta, report your issues, i always do... find that you usually get a nice email back and the final release usually has the issues solved.
