The hard drives dead. Ring Dell support.

Incidentally it might not be 'dead' as sometimes the hard drives come loose a bit and so it might not mean you have lost all your data, but to take it apart to have a look will invalidate the warranty, so you have to ring them really and they may send someone out, after an hour of asking you whether the printer is plugged in, the power is on, and that there are no disks in the drives .

Assuming you havent been doing anything dramatic to it and have just beeb installing software, then I tend to agree, the hard drives gone or is not seating correctly. Call Dell.

That doesn't sound right. The machine would at least make it to the BIOS if the HD was knackered. Sounds like a power problem to me.

I don't think I know enough about computers to be doing anything too exciting to it. I would like to just like to point out no wine, G&T or coffee has been split on it

I shall phone Dell and keep you posted

Thanks for the advice guys just wanted to make sure I wasn't being a complete wombat before I phoned them.

It probably does the POST (for those that don't know it is the 'BIOS' that Nick mentioned) and then comes up with the 'unable to find master disk' or 'Primary Hard Disk Failure', something like that. If it was a power problem you would get nothing. Being a Dell machine the likelihood is that they replaced the normal POST screen with some clever and useful marketing logo

Doh! Missed that bit! That sounds like an HD problem then.

Mary, get one bottle of gin, one bottle of tonic from the fridge and one lemon. Slice lemon. Add gin, tonic and lemon. Everything will seem so much better.
