| Word 2003 file open problem Right. This is a new one on me. Bloody Microsoft. Have set up a replacement PC running XP SP2 all fine and dandy with the username Accounts. All set up fine with Office 2003. However- when I try to open a Word document on the new PC created by the same user (Accounts) with their old PC (which is saved on the server) then Word hangs. It opens files created by any other user no problems at all and if I logon as a different user, it will open the files created by Accounts no problem at all. So it must be something to do with the username and the data stored about the creator within the Word document. Now I could work around this by creating another user, say Accounting, and then all should be fine. However- that's not the bloody point. Any ideas?

| Mmm. Can 'Accounts' create new docs? i.e. is the problem only with old ones? If not, what are the protections on its 'Normal.doc'? r Paul edit: I'm unclear, can 'Accounts' open other users' docs but not its own or is it a problem with 'Accounts' opening all word docs?

| I tend to agree with Aclivity. Another work around (if there are not too many docs) would be for another user to open all of the docs, alter something and then change it back and then save the modified document. Fine if it's one ot two, but a PITA if there are hundreds.
