| In the Hutch we have a 28" widescreen Panasonic - absolutely fantastic, My Parents have the 32" model and it seems to be well built and the picture quality is superb. I've no experience of the Sony models though. Widescreen is definitely the way forward though.

I've also looked at LCD and plasma TVs but the picture quality is appauling and they are very expensive. I think I'm going to stick to a tube for the time being.

Think that's going to be the thing for my basement home cinema/ televisiual experience. These North Americans sure do like their things big!

They're german built and their quality is stunning. Saying that I have two widescreen TV's - a Philips 32" Pixel Plus in my lounge and a newer 28" Panasonic in the bedroom. Best thing to do would be grab a DVD you know and like, and get a dealer to put the two or three that you like together, then do a like for like demo of all three and see which comes out tops. John Lewis would probably do that for you no hassle. (That's what I did when I bought the Philips. I liked the Sony but their returns rate was high on the WEGA TV's due to tube failure.)

| Unless you're buying a TV because your current one has gone pop, I'd hold off until they become widely available with an HD input digital scart socket. Not many have them at the moment including the LCDs and Plasmas. Sky will begin broadcasting in High Definition early next year, and the quality is incredible. David |

| Thanks to everyone forn the advice. I went with the Sony in the end (I'm sure I'll end up buying an HDTV one when its fully supported) and now have it hooked up to my amp and Media Centre which is pretty damn sexy.

| My LG 44" is nice it was a toss up between this and the sony wega. It is DLP and looks like a plasma very compact for the size. I found the colour and definition a little beter on the LG the only down side is it hasnt got the sexy glass stand !
