Outlook Express spell checker question for PC wizzards.
On a friends Windows XP system the option to switch on the spell checker within Outlook Express is 'greyed out' and not useable.

Anyone have any ideas what to change and where to get this option back?

I'm not sure which Word Processing/dictionary package is installed on the affected system.

Hi

You need Word, Excel or Powerpoint to be able to use the spell checker in Outlook Express. Its in the help function when you search for 'spell'

Andy,

Tks for the info which I have already passed on. I forget the name he said but he has a MS package that comes as standard with the PC and it ought to have MS Word in it. The spell checker works within the word processor.

It is probably MS Works. You can get the Works Suite though which has Word, Works, Encarta and a couple of other packages included.

There are freeware products like:

Spell Checker For OE

That claim: "The purpose of this program, is to supply for free the ability to use Spelling in OE, without the need to purchase other software, such as MS Word,Works, or Office."

Haven't tried it personally

Obtain a copy of the file csapi3t1.dll from MS office and place it in the folder
"Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof".
