Thumbs up Yet another completely necessary toy

NETGEAR MP101

This plugs into my stereo downstairs, connects via my WiFi network to a spare PC upstairs that contains all my mp3 files (all legal of course). I rip my mp3 files using iTunes (great encoder and mp3 tagger) and I use 3rd party media server software called TwonkyVision (cost me $10) to server the mp3s to the network. Twonkyvision can use iTunes database files to locate and name all the mp3s available and pass this info on to the MP101 downstairs.

Installation took less than 10 minutes from the courier arriving to listening to music (although you need some wifi knowledge unless using the crappy server software that comes with the box). I now have access to all 10,000 of my mp3s downstairs in full 192kps VBR Stereo

Box cost me £79 from Amazon so less than the cost of a semi decent CD player and the sound quality is awesome. Did I mention you can also access thousands of free internet radio shows?

from me

If I only had a clue as to what any of that meant

Have you tried Streamsicle?

http://streamsicle.com/

Streamsicle is a streaming MP3 server with a built-in web server. You and your friends can request songs from the server with your web browser while listening to the stream. - and, its FREE!!!

Shame it only supports MP3 and WMA (he says with about 4Gb of AAC files!)

Nice price, but I guess I'll just have to keep dreaming about the Roku Soundbridge

Been on the gadget trail myself recently. Just installed a Pinnacle Show Center. Similar functionality to Jay's MP3 server but can also do pictures and films. Great piece of kit.

The things we do when we can't go diving.....

Regards
