Imported post Hi, It is your only choice, as long as you don't open the attachement you should be OK. But, notify your e-mail provider. If they know there is a problem, they should be able to remove off there server. Andrew

Imported post Andy2tanx Dependant on your ISP, you should be able to log onto their system to remotely check your email (as you would when away) this will allow you to delete the offending file and any other file which has unwanted attachements. For example log onto freeserve (if this was your ISP) and find the email section. This will allow you to view and delete emails. Alternately configure NIS to attempt to Attemt to repair and if not quarantine the virus. I think your sysetem is set to deny access to the infected file. Hope this helps.

Imported post Other option is to set up Norton to divert any infected emails directly to your Delete Bin!! I want my badge please!!

Imported post I agree with Andy W on this one - if you have a webmail account you can delete it without downloading it. If you don't have such an account you should be able to set one up almost instantly. It worked for me some years ago when I was running a low spec machine and a kind friend sent me a 2meg attachment which I could not download and was blocking all my other mail.

| Imported post Sorry I've not got back to this one but I couldn't really be any more help. The mail said it was from YD admin(nice Christmas present, don't bother next year, eh) This is the reason I have a Yahoo account, so that whenever I recieve iffy mail it all just goes to "this is spam". This way the big boys and girls at yahoo see what is out there and are in a better position tham me to do something about it. I realise technically it is not spam, but what else am i meant to do. | Imported post Ok - had another look at some of these and although they say they are from 'admin@yorkshire-divers.co.uk' they are getting sent from different email providers (yahoo, supanet, btinternet) - none of these are in anyway related to the YD admin email setup so the header is false (easy to do). This is a more common feature of many worm virus' where they make up a random subject (as in Peter's) and then sample an email address from a recently received email and then use it as a 'front'. Hope this helps clear up any confusion Peter about the origins of the infected email you received. Regards |

Imported post I got 'two' separate emails carrying this virus on the same day it was being reported by other members, Norton antivirus intercepted them both but since then I cannot d/load email... Outlook cannot see any server from both of the different ISP's I use... it cannot see the pop3 servers at all although I can still access them both via 'Webmail' I have deleted all the mails in both accounts but Outlook still refuses to recognise the servers anymore..... very spooky. I'm not too bothered as I can use Webmail and I'm also about to upgrade and reformat the PC but its still got me confused

Imported post Dave I take it you have run Norton to check your computer itself. Suggest you check the settings for Outlook I'm no expert but quite some time ago when I was running Windows 98 I ran a program (can't remember what) which altered the settings on Outlook, effectively crippling it until I reset them manually.
