Many thanks for all your help chaps.

Had a bash with quite a few of the tools suggested. The geekstogo (damn good name) site also had some good instructions.. Just waiting to see if the people on geekstogo think the registry log looks clean to them - the symptoms have certainly dissapeared for now, although last time the thing did re-spawn itself.

Thanks again.

I run:

Zone Alarm, the free version.
AVG free version, with latest updates.
Firefox.
and I use:
Spybot and Spykiller.

This seams to keep my computer alive so long as I keep upto date with software updates.

Assuming you're using XP or 2000, restart your machine in "Safe mode with Command Prompt" by pressing F8 at startup, navigate to the drive where the program is and type SAV32CLI.EXE -REMOVE
This has sorted a lot of problems I have seen that I thought at first were "Spyware".

Ooh yeah.......it might be ab idea to turn off "System Restore" before doing this, or XP might just put everything back the way it was when you reboot!
SO if I run this on my win2k machine will it remove anything I might miss? Or does it just look for known trojans and wormes, and if so how do you keep it uptodate? Confussed?

ooops kind of made a BIG mistake

Don't know what i've done but i clicked on roadrunnermatts photo's to have a look at them and my comp started giving me all sorts of messages saying that it's got spyware on it.

big panic and turn thing off and unplug, waited and turn back on now just get random pop ups and things telling me to click here to get rid of spyware.

think i'll just turn it off and go home early - ooops

don't want to tell the boss, but he's off till tuesday and his comp keeps playing up with loads of pop ups so i can always blame it on that as they're linked (?networked?)

Me too.
I think it's his ISP - if it's a free one, then they make their money from cr*p like this.

Try getting a pop-up blocker such as google toolbar (which also has some funnies if you install it with the advanced option) and/or spybot.

Exclamation I had the same problem last friday

Had to take my PC down to the shop to get sorted. It will crash his PC eventually and reconfigure his web settings with loads of links to porn.

Its just a spamming virus going around!!!
