SatNav & Diving locations

Been playing with my tomtom satnav and I'm starting to collect various diving-related locations or 'points of interest' in tomtom jargon.

Anyone else doing this - and if so want to share the marks?

So far I've got:

Bunker, Portland
Capenwray
Horsea Island
Mill On The Soar
NAS, Fort Cumberland
Porthkerris
Portland Oceaneering
Portland YMCA
Stoney Cove
Wraysbury

For men.

Who are congenitally unable to stop and ask for directions but will implicitly follow a gadget saying "In three hundred yards turn right".

Got one. Love it.

Red face

At first thought appreciate it may have the look of overkill using a GPS for an inland site, I think we are talking about the personal hand held units or some othe recent mobile models.

I don't think its a tool thats just confined to out at sea applications, theres quite a few dive sites either quarries, lakes where after some less than precise well meaning directions you'll end up just meandering in at any old entry point and you'll miss the dive completely, who in all honesty hasn't done that? True you can't take it in with you ( well not at the moment anyway ) but is is a great tool for identifying with quite good precision where you should be starting the dive from the shore inland or at the coast.
I can think immediately of one site that lends itself to being put at the right point to enter the water and thats Wastwater, just turning up and going in anywhere's is going to be a complete waste of in most cases of a very long journey. I think those of us North of the border who dive the sea lochs could also see a use for it.

As it's bourne out time and time again GPS isn't is a substitute for good map or chartwork skills and it's still acknowledged a good set of transits is just as accurate. What it does is make dive site location much easier. Oh yeah and I agree there's still nothing wrong with using ye old compass.

Gledders will have loads of coordinates as being the savvy sort of person she is has a tom tom thing in the Landy, was never going to get one till I went to Vobster with her without a map and the box told us where to turn , superb device ,Santa will be bringing me one this year.

Wacker, to add a file to the message - when submitting the reply, if you look at the bottom you'll see a section 'Additional Options' with a button saying 'Manage Attachments'. If you click on that, you'll get a window which allows you to specify upto 4 files to upload - use browse to give the name of the file you want, and then click on upload - remember this last bit

I've just attached my tomtom poi file as an attachment to this message
