    Long shot computer problem

    Also posted on aria forums

My system has been playing up big time it randomly restarts with no bsod and then boot loops for a few times failing to get on to initial bios then sometimes it says your computer is unstable check settings, or something similar.

if i restore defaults it still wont boot but it never has its a overclocked bundle from Aria but was shipped without the overclock as it was taking ages due to mb playing up and i had to change twice.

I have ran several stress tests prime 95 intel burn test ram test and graphics stress tests it has past most of them without going over 80 degrees on the cpu .

I have tried it with only 1 stick of ram in and it still does the same randomly shuts down i don't have any other components i can swap in to see if it makes a difference.

i cant even reinstall the os as it wont stay on for long enough and i daren`t flash the bios incase it bricks it and then it will work less than it does atm im getting really really annoyed at it now the system cost me a lot and i can get more reliable use out of my phone atm (not aimed at aria in any way)

i can attempt to get all the settings off the bios if i can get it to stay on long enough if they will help

Any help will be appreciated i have tried running the system without a overclock and it still randomly reboots. in the time i have been writing this it has rebooted once(double figures now and i have resorted to doing the rest on a different computer) and said it is unstable so has reverted to defaults only problem the defaults never worked properly.
i overclocked it using this guide as a basis

    system specs

    PSU Antec cp 850
    CPU / Processor i7 950
    CPU CoolerProlimaTech Super Mega
    Motherboard:Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5
    Memory:Corsair Dominator 2000mhz 6GB
    Hard Drive(s):Solid 3 60gb for os and 3.5 tb (storage)Graphics:radeon 5830
    OS:Windows 7 64bit
    Case Antec DF-85

    Thanks in advance

    Richard

You could try some freezer spray targetting different components to see if it makes it more stable if the reboots are so regular.

I would consider the PSU if the PC just goes off completely without any hint of a shutdown process/ blue screen of death especially if it does it during the POST and BIOS section of a boot.

Very general thoughts but hope they might help a little.

I recently had a PC play up like this - hard disk was on the way out. Do you have another you could put in to install os/boot from?

Do you get a "post" beep?

Sounds a lot like a problem that I had with hardware and/or MB drivers...

Also, there's nothing wrong with flashing the BIOS - usually a case of shorting the requisite pins on the board with a paperclip while it tries to boot. Give it a go, what have you got to lose?

i have just tried it with a different psu and it booted fine i only have my ssd plugged in atm and that works perfectaly i have unplugged everything else from it

about flashing the bios i meant i didnt want to do it as it was sutting down randomly it could corupt the bios and then the mobo wont work its got dual bios on the mobo but still not something i want to try when it was working well a few weeks ago.

I dont have a speaker plugged into the mobo but it has a display on it to show what its doing during boot and it gets to the point where is just cycling c1 flash c1 and i think that is memory test but it passes that fine and the ram passes stress tests so i cant see it being that i have fired ff a email to antec to see what they will do about a 120 quid psu failing in 18 months will await the outcome from that

no idea what the freeze spray is but it doesn't sound safe to be spraying it on my pc last thing i want is for it to be a mobo problem contact gigabyte and for them to say you did this we cant replace it thats what they said about my last one pretty much luckily that one was 40 quid this one is 240 so dont want to risk breaking it
    `
strange how i got more responses on here than on aria

    thanks

just did it again with a different psu great looks like the psu isn't the problem

Freeze spray does not leave a residue.
David G's suggestion was because sometimes intermittent problems like this are cause by over heating. The spray can cool a part to within it's normal operating parameters and point to the location of the problem e.g. poor contact between your CPU and its heatsink.

Sounds like you have it aced thogh, can be a pita, but build it bit by bit now. (Or just bung it all together and hope for the best. )

Odd how we have odd superstitions, I will go through a complete assembly but not put the cover screws in until I'm 100% it's fixed

I have just stressed it with the different psu in and it boot looped again said it was unstable as before :@ i cant work out what it is watching temps on everst everything is normal will fire off a emamil to aria asking them what i should do it seems the longer i lave it off for the longer it stays on for then it boot loops for a bit and stays on for a while again nothing feels hot at all so dont think its over heating once it boots and you go on bios you can see temps and they are alll normal all blow 40 degrees it is getting correct voltages from the psu and it reboots if you dont go near it an i have checked all the connections and their doesnt seem to be any bad ones

i never put the side on the case until its running stable and i dont plug in any usb things that arent needed either i do have anasty habit of getting the wiring all nice and neat befire even turning it on then you realise you havent done something and it all needs to come out thats not nice at all im getting close to hitting it thats how mad its making me atm would ring the technical advice line but at 60p a min they can whistle may offer to send it back and let them have a play

How long have you had it? if it was me and it was new kit i'd send it back.

If it won't run at BIOS defaults then you either have some RAM incompatibility or one of the parts is broken. Either way, if it came as a bundle it's Aria's issue.

i got it in 2010 :/ i have emailed them and await a response al the components have a 3 year manufacturer warranty so if its a single part i can get a new one but i cant test them to see if faulty aria would have to so i need to be nice they seem to be good most of the time and sort most problems out when i bought it i rang up and had someone to talk to who gave me a good price and whenever i wanted a update i gave him a call or email and he got right back to me so cant falt them on that will see how it turns out im just rewiring it all now with my original psu then will take out the cmos battery leave it over night and try again tomorrow afternoon after some nice relaxing dives in the morning

it did this a few months ago but i just tweaked the bios settings and it was fine this time not so lucky

Check the capacitors on the motherboard to see if any are swollen or leaking. These can cause similar problems to those described
