| It sounds more like a program loading and then "minimising" itself. Does the picture mean anything? If you do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and look in Task/Program Manager can you identify an installed/open program that the picture relates to? Assuming you have a Window's OS if you push the [F8] function key when the PC beeps on booting up you should see an option come up (amongst others) to do a step by step load - maybe this will identify what is happening. You could look in your Start Up menu to see what is set up to install. Other than that it could be Spy type program - difficult to say. Is the picture there long enough for you to press Alt-PrtScn which will take a copy of the window and enable you to paste it somewhere else for closer scrutiny.

| Hi Foggy I'm guessing (hoping?) you're running Windows 9x/ME?? If so, its the windows splash-screen thats become reactivated - was generally set by OEMs to splash their logo or Bill Gates to brag... To get rid of it, use a utility like FreshUI (free, not spyware) off the internet If you're running XP, 2000 or the like, then sounds like a program is loading and going "resident", again, FreshUI can help BTW, I've nothing to do with FreshUI - have it loaded on all the home PCs to help keep em tidy. I have a copy I can email to you if you want |

It is nice to use a recommended software rather than being the brave person to try it out first

| I've had the same thing in the past. It was to do with profiles, the background of the default profile briefly appeared on boot up and shut down. Try booting up in the default profile and changing the background there. Juz

| FreshUI Hi Finless I have Norton Anti-virus, Norton Personal Firewall & Lavasoft Ad-Aware on the home PCs and none of them complain about FreshUI The works laptop has the equivalent versions of McAffee Enterprise - again, no complaints (Oh and our IT guys check everything) The only "problem" I've had with FreshUI, is that if you set it to "run on setup", it seems to zap your folder preferences. I've found that to be a minor glitch to have to put up with to have it auto-clear a load of cr*p from the PC It also lets you "tweak" a number of windows settings (though you MUST know what yo're doing) |

| Ok, thanks guys. I seem to have cured it.... Under control panel, display, web.... I have removed the check on show web content on my active desktop...... and hey presto its gone. or has it? Is it really that simple? Cheers, Paul |
