Go on ebay find the best price you can, or indeed you may find it cheaper to get the TomTom stuff seperate from your PDA. Don't be put off by only getting TomTom3 you will get this extremely cheap now 5 has come out. As soon as you have the product ID even if its been registered before you can reassign it to urself then pay the 59 euros to upgrade to 5 with all European Maps see below:

The following maps are included in the TomTom NAVIGATOR 5 upgrade:

Great Britain
Germany, Poland and Czech Republic
Austria and Switzerland
Italy
Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland
Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg
France
Spain, Portugal and Andorra

Goto www.TomTom.com and select the upgrade option to see these details. Personally I got the whole lot PDA, Bluetooth GPS, TomTom 3 for £350. I even went to the guys house and essentially took over his TomTom logon on the net to takeover the product ID but it wasn't necessary.

Be careful about buying second-hand versions of Navigator 3. If the previous licencee upgraded it to 5 already, you won't be able to do it again.

It's a bit of swizz that you can pay 59 euros and get the GB AND European maps, but if you buy the full version of 5 you just get GB.

TomTom Navigator 5 Bluetooth GPS (UK)

Dear all,

Cheapest I've managed to find the above is £169 on the web. Anyone know of any good sites that could possibly better this price?

Many thanks,

Ian

You are aware that the speed camera addon is not available for 5 yet?
Doesn't trouble me but annoyed my brother.

You can load the overlays and get Tomtom's internal 'Beep at N yards' but not the speed dependant range stuff.

Of course you don't need it because you don't speed like I don't.
I have 5 and quite like it.
No. I paid more than that so I can't help.

Don't forget buying the bits independently you'd have another £60-70 for a gPS receiver if u don't already have one.

All you need is a Nokia 6600 (or similar Symbian 6.0 phone) and a GPS receiver, you can get them for about 60 quid..
As for the software..
Er anyone wants it I can cut it on to a CD with some instructions.
I've got 4 & 5 (TomTom mobile) and all the speed camera files etc work with it..

Just one thing to say about satnav in cars... remember to turn it on!

I was getting a lift up to St Abbs with a friend a while ago, he didn't have the GPS on but I assumed he knew the way... we were about 20 miles into Scotland, thinking that we should have been there by now, before I suggested turning on the satnav... :o\

speed camera detectors - a problem

I've downloaded some software to my sat nav which is supposed to warn me if I am going too fast when I am approaching a speed camera site.

I have NO idea if this works. How am I supposed to test it? Deliberately drive too fast at a speed camera and wait for it to bleep at me? Then if it doesn't bleep and I chicken out, did it not bleep because I am more of a chicken than it thinks I should be, or is it just not working.
