However, the ROM's are known to go bad and usually what happens is that the software gets downloaded from the Sat, it loads into ROM but doesn't move into Live, so it goes through the motions but ends up still unhappy.

Dependent on the box you have (is it a black/white one or an all white one?) you may have an advantage from an upgrade. The newer V2 boxes can be hard disk upgraded to 300Gb (the normal disk in the unit is 40Gb). I've a 180Gb disk in mine and it works great. All the refurbs tend to be V2 boxes now as the older V1 boxes are being scrapped.

Also, if the engineer's nice enough, you may be able to swap the HDD between the units. Offer to do it yourself if they'll let you (I did when my V1 box kicked the bucket).

Mark.
Mark,

Just got the box out of the car (hoping to take to a Mr Fixit today). It has all white casing and is the model BSKYB3100.

I've got a 250Gb in my digibox. I deliberately tried to fill it and it struggled after about 200 but I think its a capacity thing ie it managed 80%. Not seen any recommendations for working 300Gb but essentially any decent Maxtor upto 250Gb should work. Some seagates do too but not all. Preference is for a 5400rpm if u can get it as it keeps it cooler and sky can't use the extra speed but they tend to be rarer and more expensive now www.specialreserve.co.uk had some a month a go.

As was said above if I were u i'd swap the harddrives of the boxes so save ur recorded programs. Another nifty trick that sometimes works, if u use a hardisk recovery program you recover the raw data from the sky hardisc without it being a pc format. Then once your new drive has been registered in the sky box u can copy that drive image back to the new drive on the new box. That way you don't need to open the boxes while the engineer is there.

Question

Sorry to butt in on your thread Fin, but my sky+ thinks the hard drive is full. Even when there's nothing recorded/to be recorded it still says there is only 20% free. Is there anything I can do to wipe the disk (reformat it or something like that)?

Cheers

Daza

Darren,

Try this:

Press Services, followed by 4 0 1 [SELECT] to get into the installer menu.

Select option 7 - Sky+ Planner Rebuild

It defrags the hard drive.

Let it run it's course and you should be away.

HTH

Dom,

You are officially a star! Worked a treat, didn't even lose the few programs I had recorded.

Can't greenie you again, so you'll have to make do with a "Thank you"

Cheers
