Exclamation A Guide to Wireless Networking - Questions & Answers.

Will some kind soul save my sanity ?

I've just bought a Netgear DG834GT with WG511T 108Mbps PC Card.

Got the laptop talking to the router OK, but the B*****d thing just will not talk to BT to get the settings for the external connection.

Tried BT, bunch of tossers, 'cos I didnt buy it from them it was basically "Sod off". Dabs.com obviously no support ! Netgear site no darned good either.

HELP it's driving me to drink

Did the same with BT - but I can't remember the settings for the life of me - sorry!

It can be done just keeping fiddling with the settings.

May be worth a look here There doesn't seem to be a manual for yours, maybe the basics are the same as mine, the docs that come with the kit are sparse to say the least!

Try the ADSLGuide fourums. I've found them to be extremely helpful in the past.

FWIW I'm a happy DG834G user.

#1 - I think there's a firmware upgrade for them - download that if it's available. It's not essential though.
#2 - Do a manual configure.
#3 - Make sure you have the full username and passwords inserted
#4 - Make sure you have the following configured;
Data circuit information:
VPI = 0 (Virtual Path Identifier)
VCI = 38 (Virtual Channel Identifier)
Data Link Encapsulation:
PPPoA
PPP properties:
VC Multiplexed

Not all hardware manufacturers use the exact terms above so you may see PPP, PPPoATM or RFC2364 instead of PPPoA. Similarly you may see VC Multiplexed referred to as VC-based or VCMUX.

And see how you go.

The netgear box should automatically detect your connection settings but if it won't then the following should work.

Connection type - PPPoA
Login details as provided by BT

Multiplexing method - VC Based
VPI - 0
VCI - 38

IP address and DNS servers assigned by ISP

P.S. Slow ass typing beaten to it by two people after hitting reply! If your still having problems I'm at work at the moment doing nothing much, I've PM'ed you my mobile number give me a ring and I'll try and help.

Having the same problem with my DG834G, the above is exactly what my ISP told me to do, i'll be giving it a whirl tonight (i think the VPI & VCI no's are the cause of the problem as their default settings are 8 and 35)
