I heard about something like this before ...

A PA rang the helpdesk and explained that she had inadvertently knocked a full coffee cup over the keyboard. Thing was, she was using her bosses computer and was obviously keen for him not to know, so could she get a replacement keyboard? Helpdesk checked the stocks, nothing available so they said for her to look around the office to see if there was a similar keyboard that she could swap out.

The PA came back to the phone, now quite panicky about the whole thing, and said there were some keyboards, but none that looked the same.

The helpdesk manager was summoned and after a few minutes thought, he said that as the keyboard was pretty simple in terms of electrical connections, rinsing it through with clean cold tap water, then putting it on a hot radiator to dry, should be OK, certainly no worse than the coffee. The PA was profuse in her thanks and went off to do as directed.

Sometime later the PA's boss rang the helpdesk with one, direct question...

"which idiot told my PA to rinse my laptop in the sink?"
