Red face What's Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library?

Everytime I try to open explorer from my desktop it comes up with the following error message:
Runtime Error!
Program: C/:Program files/internet explorer/iexplore.exe

This application has asked Rumtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

So what have I done & how do I fix it? I have system restored the machine a few times and it works for a few days & then falls over again......... Help?

Firstly give the PC less rum, I did a quick search and came up with suggestions of removing the google toolbar to installing Adware www.lavasoft.com.

You could try either of those then let me know how you get on.

Blanaid,

I C&P :-

Runtime Error!
Program: C/:Program files/internet explorer/iexplore.exe

- into Google and a few web sites came up. I suspect it is one of those error messages that crops up for a number of reasons. Still it may be worth searching on the Geeks web site (came up on Google search) or maybe the MS Support web site.

Alternatively, maybe you could do a reboot in "safe mode" and see if the internet access is still OK (if it is available in safe mode ....... can't remember) - that may confirm it is another program on your PC that is causing the problem rather than a fault with IE.

Are you uptodate with your Windows Updates?

Have you installed anything new recently? Try running the PC without "it" to see if that makes a diff.

Bryan

Would be worth doing a virus and spybot check while you are at it. If you have any I.E. toolbars such as goocle etc then I would start by uninstalling those.

'Microsoft Runtime Library' basically means a bit of code that is required while a piece of software is running. It is either due to a bad or dubious install or due to something trying to do something it shouldn't. Give your PC a healthcheck for viruses etc and then look again.

Hope this helps, BTW, as the above will make evident, I'm not a SysAdmin, but do tinker a bit.
