Pick Arse? A?

I was watching the end of The Gadget Show tonight and they reviewed photo editing suites.

Microsoft's effort got the best rating.

Picassa (free from Google) got a very good mention. Although it only has the basics in terms of editing it, apparently, has a very good system for locating ALL pictures on your HD and listing them.

I have just downloaded it and am just going to have a look.

Thumbs up Picasa

yeah i used picasa for most of last year and it was very good at cataloging all pics on your disks.

also nicely split pics up into albums etc.., but for photo editing you can't beat PaintShop Pro

NO Adobe is Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro is by JASC, or used to be they are now owned by Corel.

Corel have bought them !! News to me... yikes that means PSP will get over-complicated and expensive.

I will stick with PSP v7 which is simple, quick, but powerful and easy to use

It happened a while ago:
On October 14, 2004, the Corel Corporation, one of the industry's top ten packaged software vendors, acquired Jasc Software, Inc.
This acquisition will yield real benefits to all Jasc Paint Shop customers. Corel intends to put the powerful R&D resources of the newly-combined companies behind the popular Paint Shop family, ensuring that next-generation Paint Shop products will continue to flourish. Also, Corel will continue to provide service and support to all Paint Shop customers. Their primary goal is to ensure that your critical needs are effectively met.
Corel is best known for their graphics, office, and personal productivity solutions, including CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, the WordPerfect Office Suite and the Corel Painter natural media painting and illustration software. With the addition of the Paint Shop family, Corel can now provide you a complete migration path from the most basic photo editing, organizing and sharing, to image improvement and retouching, all the way to advanced image editing and graphics creation.
Corel can offer you greater access to the most innovative, reliable, and affordable packaged software portfolio in the industry. Their products rival other brands in quality, performance and reliability – but at a much lower cost to you.
Corel is thrilled to add the Paint Shop family to their growing portfolio of packaged software products and looks forward to meeting your business and personal software needs with this expanded range of affordable products. Also, you can rest assured that the combined development resources of Corel and Jasc will drive significant product innovation well into the future.

I'd get v.8. It's much better than 7. And still JASC.

I've got PSP V10 and there are some nice new features in it. Smart Photo Fix is one of them. This puts most of the more common adjustments into one panel and if you use Auto Proof (and a system with enough oomph and memory), you can adjust the whole image in real time. There's also a browser window which is helpful when working through a whole folder - a bit more usable than the earlier version.

Overall, the interface is improved rather than made more complicated. The Learning Centre also provides on-screen help which is useful for new users.
