ipod video - OSX Apple?

Looking to convert and transfer avi / mpgs recorder on digital camera to ipod video from an Apple Mac running latest version of OSX.

I know I can buy Quicktime pro and that will let me do it for the ipod but are there any other options? freeware?

I know this is a longshot but had to ask.

Cheers

iMovie has a few export options - would one of them do the trick?

Talking

ooo me me me,

Can I offer some completely unhelpful advice that I see people constantly trumpet onto threads in a vain attempt to make them look cool and slightly subvertive?

why not "dump your OS and install linux", it's way cool and cannot be hacked blah blah blah....

alternate advice:

"scrap your PC and get a Mac"

oh, now that I've fully read your post, I see you've already got one...

I'll get my coat

PS: haven't used iTunes video stuff yet, but does it offer any kind of conversion facility in the same way that it will convert any Windows Media file formats before using them?

You're right! I just managed to import a couple of .mov and .mp4 files into itunes, straight from the import command on the file menu. Took a couple of seconds. OOO, more stuff to play with...

had a scootle over to http://www.ilounge.com and found this article, which shows how to convert stuff with iTunes.

The comments section is worth reviewing for feedback - looks like some folks are struggling with sound missing or out of sync, but there's lots of alternate software suggested.

I haven't tried any video yet as my iPod is a 60Gb photo model - do you know if this can play video after the firmware upgrade, or is it only the latest iPod video and nano models that can do video playback?
