Question eBay

OK, wanted a BCD and set of Regs for IFCs, OWICs, PIEs (evidently twin 12s, long hoses and the like isn't "recommended")... So,
1. Bid on a set of Regs on eBay - won, paid
2. "watched" a BCD (from same bloke) which didn't sell, so sent him a msg saying "it didn't sell, so how much", haggled, agreed price and paid direct via Paypal (bit risky, but hey the 1st transaction seemed OK)
3. Payments went through, goods "despatched"
4. This morning recd an email from eBay and an eBay message saying:

"The following is a notice from eBay Trust & Safety regarding: Item Number - xxxxx - Item Title - Reeflex regulator set with spares
Our records show that you were a bidder on this item. We recently removed this listing and have suspended the seller's trading privileges. Due to privacy concerns we will not be able to share further details related to this seller. If someone claiming to be the seller asks you to complete a transaction outside of eBay, we strongly recommend that you ignore the request. Transactions for items listed on eBay that are completed outside of the eBay marketplace are not covered by the Buyer Protection services offered by eBay and can be highly indicative of fraud. If you have not sent payment to the seller, we urge you to not proceed with the transaction. If you have already paid, you may wish to pursue recouping your funds. Some steps you might take include..."

5. So, mild panic sets in...
6. Card through letterbox saying "large parcel waiting for you at local post office"
7. Scoot straight round
8. Open box, goods as described!!!

WTF is/was going on???

One possible explanation - seller was genuine punter, got scammed and divulged his ebay log-in, reported this to ebay who then pulled his account for safety.

Less panicy now?

Or plan b - seller was as crooked as a crooked thing, offloaded the proceeds of their latest ram raid on ebay but just made it to the post office to ship everything before the sweeney came and turned over his lock up. Boys in blue trace the gear to ebay and get the account locked to stop him offloading anything else and are now hot on the heels of all the dodgy gear he's shipped to reclaim it and return it to the rightful owner....

Still less panicy?

or it could be that they track emails to / from bidders and sellers on non completed items to try to prevent selling outside. in theory he should have relisted with a lower reserve and reauctioned

Or he forgot to pay his ebay subs on time.

Happened to me once due to changing credit cards. All your listings are pulled and same message is sent to bidders on your items.

This is probably the most likely as if he was scamming he would not have sent the goods out.

In any case as you received the goods seems honest enough.

Send an email asking what's up as you might want to trade again.

Cheers,

Gary.

Be very wary about any email purporting to be from ebay.
Go straight to your account, not via the address in the email, and check if it is in "your messages".
I get lots of emails "from ebay" asking me to confirm account details, asking questions about fictitious sales and referring to transactions. I don't think the freekers have ever attached me to a genuine transaction yet but it wouldn't be too hard.

The strange this is/was, that I recd a msg within eBay that was virtually identical to the email itself
(oh and no - never do click on links in email)

Did that, though it was problematic - as eBay had withdrawn his account and all reference to the two items, it wasn't possible to send a "message". Thankfully, had kept emails from him/eBay

I had a similar problem late last year, I made and bid, won and paid for a cracked copy of TomTom software, I then received an email from eBay saying they had received a complaint about the seller and had withdrawn the item, they advised me not to complete the sale I asked for details and was told they couldn't provide them.

I contacted the seller and told him, I got the item no problem apparently he had used a picture which belong to someone else and they objected.

As long as you get copies of the email in your "My eBay" then they should be OK.
