More MP3 Problems

Sorry,
once again I'm here with another MP3 problem. I've asked around but none of the answers I've received seem to be working so, again, I find myself turning to the oracle which is YD !!!!

I have lots of MP3 files on my computer. If I want to copy them onto a cd as MP3 files I copy them using Nero and the compile a Data CD bit - this means I can put loads of MP3 cds onto one disc.
Apparently, though this is the bit that won't work, if I want to put an MP3 file onto a disc as a 'normal' file, ie. to be played on a cd player that won't play MP3 discs, I have to use the compile an Audio CD bit. But, when I try to drag and drop the file within Nero it says Nero cannot read this file.

Any ideas????

You'll need to convert the file from mp3 to a format that Nero can handle for writing to an audio CD. From memory, you can use .wav or .wma files.

There are various conversion tools around (shareware and others) - not too expensive. I use dbPoweramp. You will need to register for a small cost in order to convert to/from mp3. The benefit is once you've done this, you can convert by right-clicking on the file in Explorer rather than having to start a separate program first.

(Bear in mind though that the mp3 files are compressed so you will have lost some quality which you won't 'get back' by converting to an audio format. On the other hand if you're listening on cheap headphones it won't really matter )

hope this helps

Many thanks. I think I've sussed it. There's a bit within Nero that says File Encoding which lets you alter the file. It seems to have worked.

Thanks for your help.

Glad to hear that - you must have a better version of Nero than me then - I guess you actually bought the full version??? I've only got the version that was bundled with the PC.

It's Nero 5. I think my friend put it on when he'd cleaned off my computer after I got a particuarly nasty virus!
