| Gav reboot try again, sometimes the drivers for the cd/dvd get corrupted.( same thing happened to me) Have you any other applications on the laptop that you can try to play a dvd ie Real player ie is it just the one application that won't play the dvd's? If you running XP have a look at the device manager for conflicts. After having backed up anything urgent could always try partial restore see if it reverts things back to normal. Last resort reinstall the cd/dvd drivers.

| Thanks Tony - the thing is it works with burned DVDs just not real legit ones so I don't thinks it's a driver problem but maybe a decoder prob. AARRGGHHHH - Gav lets off steam I will give everything you've said a go tho cos' it won't do an harm. I've already tried a system restore but it made no difference. EDIT: Having looked on the net it appears that other folk have had trouble with the same DVD drive - which is a slimtype dvdrw SOSW-852S. I don't wanna have to buy another tho'

| Firmware update Gavin You might want to try the manufacturer to check for latest firmware? This page http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/English/...e_dvd%20rw.asp mentions the SOSW-852SX Hope it helps Martin |

It could be a codec problem or your DVD will only play specific region DVD's? I'm guessing its a codec issue which can be easily resolved by installing an all round codec pack such as this. http://www.cole2k.net/?display=Codec-Pack-Standard Hope it helps! ![]()
