Crystal Palace transmitter is broadcasting Planet Earth in HD as part of the BBC terrestrial freeview HD trials. Only selected ppl have these freeview HD boxes. I am guessing he knows someone near there who has one.

I've recently got a USB2 DVB-T reciever for my Mac, and apparently it supports DVB-T-HD (Is marked up as HD Ready) so next time I'm in London I'll give it a try.

Have just had Sky HD installed. Verdict? Well to be honest I didn't fall off the chair in amazement . Maybe I had built up my expectations a bit too much...

The difference isn't hugely noticable for scenery and non close up shots. It is however very good on close ups. I've heard that all the A list celebs have clauses in their contracts now saying thay can't be filmed in HD from closer than 2 metres distance or some such and you can see why. Every stray hair, skin blemish, filling etc. suddenly becomes visible where it wouldn't be on normal channels.

Also some shots with people in foreground have a sort of 3D quality to them, in that the actor seems detached from the background due to the sharp definition of their 'edges'.

Got to spend some more quality time in front of the telly to firm up my overall opinion on it.

HD box itself looks good though
