Tom Tom for my Mobile - Please help me!!

Hi, hoping the YD collective will be able to help me here.

I have a copy of the Tom Tom software for, uuuhm, demonstration purposes. I've copied the seven folders onto the phone memory (a Nokia 6630 - thanks Epic, with 256Mb memory card - thanks Martin S ) as per the instructions, however there doesn't seen to be anyway of running the TT application. The instructions simply say

Go to your phones menu and select the TomTom icon the program should launch

However I don't have the tom tom icon. Although I've copied the files to the phone (through the transfer files in the Nokia PC suite) , do i have to run some sort of installation program to sort of "unzip" them. Help, arrrgghhhh - it's driving me nuts!!

Found this - it may be of use

The 9 folders you should have are :

Great_Britain-Map
itn
Licences
raster
schemes
system
TomTom
voices
zip

These are the instructions I made when I set up mine assuming a blank memory card.

1. Put MMC card in your phone (I think this formats the card for you putting the file structure on it).
2. Remove card and put it in a card reader connected to your computer.
3. Copy the 9 TomTom directorys, one at a time, from your CD to the root of the MMC card. It will tell you files already exist when you try to copy the SYSTEM directory over. Say 'Yes to all' at this stage.

That should be it for the TomTom software... it should now appear on your menu. I made the mistake of formatting the memory card using the PC/card reader.... it doesn't work! Use the phone to format the card. Hopefully you have a card reader! When you open TomTom you will get a location/map displayed. You need to press the control circle of your 6630 to enter the TomTom menu.

GPS set up.

0. Switch on your GPS
1. Choose 'Connect' on your phone
2. Choose 'Bluetooth'
3. Press the Right arrow on the circular control of the 6630
4. Choose Options
5. Choose New paired device
6. If given the option switch bluetooth on.
7. It should find your GPS (Mine says BT GPS)
8. Choose Select and you should be prompted for a passcode. I entered 0000 for mine.
9. When prompted : Authorise device to make connections automatically select Yes.

Your GPS is now paired with your phone.... but you need to set TomTom up to use this pairing.

Take you GPS outside (make sure it's switched on) and leave it with a clear view of the sky for at least 1 minute.

1. Go into TomTom
2. Choose Change Preferences
3. Keep going down the menu until you get to Show GPS status.
4. From the GPS status screen choose 'Configure'
5. Arrow down (or choose 'Next') to 'Other Bluetooth GPS' and press 'Select'
6. Move over the device name you have previously paired (in my case BT GPS) and press 'Select'
7. Press Continue
8. Wait for the grey bars indicating signal strength to turn blue... when they do you have locked on...
9. Press Done. You are done!

Talking Nice one. YD does it again :-)

Martin, you're a star! Copying the system folder gave an error message (something not being found on phone) but it doesn't seem to have effected it. Tom tom icon is there, and it all fires up even without having the GPS receiver. Brings up my road when i enter the postcode etc - excellent!

Thanks again.

Glad you got it sorted.
Now you'll have to start hunting eBay for a bluetooth GPS receiver (if you haven't already!)
Have fun
Martin

Darren, if you haven't already got a receiver, then get one with the SirfStar 3 Chipset.

I used one with TomTom mobile (On YOUR 6630!).
I originally used a cheapy off Ebay but it was pants.

Then I spoke to someone 'In the know' and he recommended the SirfStar 3 receiver. It was loads better.

I paid about £80 for the receiver last summer off Ebay - not sure what they are now though.

Hi all,

Sorry to resurect such an old thread, but I followed these at the time, and TT5 worked fine, I've just got a copy of TT6 and the instructions above say copy the files to the root of the MMC card what does that mean - I've forgotten!!

Cheers

Darren
