| IPAQ 1940 + Tom Tom 5 COM Port Problem I'm in the process of trying to set up my IPAQ 1940 and GPS connection. The instructions say the GPS settings should be set to Baud Rate: 19200 and COM Port 1. I have an Arkon Powered GPS PDA Mount I go into the software and select the following: Show GPS Status--> (Have to select one of the following: Tom Tom Wireless GPS Tom Tom Cable GPS Other Bluetooth GPS Other Cable NMEA GPS) I select Other Cable NMEA GPS (I presume this is correct) Select the Baud Rate of 19200 I then get a screen asking saying "GPS is connected to: COM3 Bluetooth Serial Port... Bluetooth Serial Port... S2410 IRDA2410 S2410 COM0 Serial on USB As you can see there isn't an option to select COM1. I have tried COM3 but doesn't work. I have turned the Beam off under Settings-->Connections on the IPAQ. I have no idea how to check what COM Ports are being utilised on the IPAQ. Anyone have any ideas how to get COM1 working? Many thanks, Ian

| They can be a bit finicky even when you done all the right stuff. Have you tried cold restarting the pda with and without the cradle attached? as it may get it to recognise the appropriate com port sometimes this sorts it out. For some curious reason a restart sometimes sorts it. Presuming theres no menu for selecting an alternative com port within the Tom Tom menu Have you tried the Tom Tom cable gps option? Its usually something minor with these things easily sorted if youre in the know if your still struggling try posting on Pocket GPS World usually get someone responding with a fix.

| Don't know if i've got this right ? Take it your pda is connected to your cradle gps via wires ie it doesn't use the blue tooth? If the Bluetooths on on the pda and hence it may be using the comm port causing a conflict and stopping it communicating with the gps Appreciate you may have done this already but have you tried switching off the bluetooth on the pda,ie is it showing ON? and see if it frees up the right comm port ?just a thought.

Having just spoken to a mate, COM Port 1 is the connection at the bottom of the pda, where the sync cable attaches to use Active Sync. Active Sync works fine on the so proves that the com port is ok. Could we be looking at a possible dodgy USB to serial power/data cable that has been supplied with the unit?

| Hi Martin, I've stuck a detailed posting on the Expansys forums - http://www.expansys.com/forumthread.asp?code=105738&thread=188&man=HEWLE and hopefully might hear something today? Yeah, out in the car in a fairly wide open space aswell and left if for about 20 minutes. When setting up GPS I don't get the option anywhere to select COM1. If I can't get it sorted may have to look at further options. Possibility is a powered PDA mount with RJ12 connection, got any recommendations for a GPS/Bluetooth receiver that doesn't cost the earth? Cheers, Ian Quote:
