Batch renaming of files

I'm copying some audio books from CD to PC and ulimately to an IPOD for 'er indoors to listen to on holiday, it's what she does while I'm diving [1]. These books come on (say) 12 CDs and the tracks are typically named Track01, Track02 etc on each CD. I would like to rename each track as "Title - Author - CD# - Track#" but doing this manually is a tedious and time consuming task. Does anyone know of a batch file renaming utility so that I can automate a lot of the work. Obviously I would still have to put the CD# and track# in manually.

[1] she also shops, but that is normal for the species

Doesn't iTunes label everything up as you rip it?

I'm using Nero to copy each CD to it's own folder under a master folder for the "book". The Cd's can then go back to the library .. oops.

I'm not that familiar with itunes .. yet, but I am trying to rename the files on my PC before using iTunes to transfer them to the IPOD. Your name would be quite apt if it were applied to me

Cheers Kithands, I'll have a look at that. I've just found 2 utilities with Google, one seems a bit flaky though.

Hmm, not used Nero for that, I use the Creative software that came with my soundblaster, it may be worth having a look at Audiograbber, I think its freeware now, Audiograbber, CD-ripper for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP

There is always the MSDOS rename utility :-)

Otherwise try EAC EAC - Exact Audio Copy it will do exactly what you want and is free.

Try MusicBrainz Tagger, it analyses the content of the tracks and makes suggestions as to what they are against its database. If it doesn't recognise them straight away, you can select from a list as to what they are.

Try This: File Rename

I use it when changing multiple filenames and it will execute an incremental number change in two places on a file if you want it to.

Windows media player will rips CD's to MP3 files with the correct naming and also encode the ID3 Tags (very important for MP3 players).
