get in touch with one of those charities that accept old PC gear and ask if they have any lying about, and make them an offer that benefits them, thus benefitting you

Memory - no, but...
I've got a spare lap-top that you could have if you want. There'll be no operating system on it, but it's a Toshiba portege 7200 and I think it's got 384 MB RAM and 20GByte of disc. I believe the battery is ferked - you get about 30 mins from it, but the charger works, so if you aren't planning to be one of those w4nkers using a laptop on the train, it should be fine.

A donation to RNLI secures the goodies...
