I have several TVs and Andy's answer is correct. Some hi-end TVs are maybe multi-standard but most are not. Our UK TV did not work in Italy and our Italian TV doesn't work in the UK... Both are PAL. (playback over the SCART from DVD or Vid is OK though)

Whether T.V. Sony enjoyed his journey to Milan and back I couldn't say

From what I understand a UK TV is quite welcome to work in the pacific rim so long as there is someone to pay for him/her/him.

If you're wanting to take Region 2 DVDs, get a multi-regional DVD Player.
Or, see if you can find the code for programing the DVD you are taking/have

I have a multi-regional DVD Player so have DVDs from various regions. I managed to find the code for making the portable DVD I took on holiday (don't ask) multi-regional by searching the web for the code. It was simple and worked
