3.6 gigs of goodness for 70quid? Its true!

Just finished building my mates pc for him. Its a:
P4 805D dual core 2.66gig cpu - cost is 70quid
Asus P5N32 SLI Delux
2gig of crucial ballistix
2x 250 gig SATA2 Seagate Baracuda drives
Creative XFI sound card + 5.25" bay control
2x XFX Geforce 7900GT
Huge zalmaan heatpie raidiator heatsink - very very nice!

Now this thing is a monster but I read review of the 805D chip going to 3.6 gig with air cooling - we had to try!

Build the whole PC - loaded windows, he started overclocking installed coolbits to tweak the geforce gfx cards (in SLI mode). It has an option to find the optimum core/mem settings. Default is 520mhz core and 750mhz mem. It clocked them to 580mhz core and 870mhz mem!

Managed 6900marks on PCmark06 rock solid stable (after 50 looping tests).

If anyone wants the settings that he used they are below:
Stable at 3.6gig:
FSB clock is 720mhz (35% overclock), Memory clock is 800mhz (50% overclock)
core voltage of 1.475V which idles at 33C and caps 50C underload.
North Bridge is 1.4v, south bridge is 1.5v.
Memory voltage 2.0V (ballistix is tested to 2.2V)
NB: PEG performance setting disabled

It did post at 4.2gig and got into windows but failed to do anything.

Playing fear on a 22" Dell Supersharp LCD with 7.1, on full gfx settings was amazing, and still capping 50fps!

That floated my boat this evening. Have to go back again to help him tweak memory timings and sort out his raid 0 config on the SATA2 channel when he re-installs windows tomorrow

Happy happy man

aint no where near frying it

Tomshardware.co.uk - check out their overclock of it. They were pumping in 1.5v and capping 80C!

Anyway - my mates was purely buying the stuff above to overclock it. He was the one pushing the buttons - i just built the thing as he has the ability to seem to kill all components.

Lesson 1 - never O/C another persons PC unless you have the cash to replace things that go wrong

Sounds like borrowing dive kit off others

Very nice indeed! How do you find that motherboard? I had an Asus P5AD2 for two years before it died the other week. Took my 3.4GHz chip to up to 3.9GHz. Wasnt overclocked when it died though. Still looking for a replacement as 1 place took my mony then told me a week later they couldnt get the board in stock and the next sent me the wrong one!

he got all the kit from overclockers.co.uk - ive dealt with them before and they are a top place! They were the ones that recommended the board to him
