Anyone taken a Medion Laptop apart?

I have a Medion MD6488 laptop which has a DVD reader/CD writer that has died.

I have obtained a direct replacement but am unable to get the damm thing apart fully.

All visible screws have been removed from bottom and rear but there seems to be a pillar somewhere midway under the keypad but I can not see any way of detaching it.

I am not going to force it, but wondered if anyone had experience of taking these apart?

All laptops seem to be nigh on impossible to take apart!

So silly as I have just put a new DVD burner into this machine which took all of two minutes! - why do manufacturers have to make laptops so damm awkward?

Not a Medion but a Tiny. You probably need to take off the screen as well and then the keyboard will probably come off quite easily. The plastic body is probably held on with a multitude of clips inside. All you can do with those is push and pull and try and figure out the best way to get them free. Access to the cd drive should be straightforward after that. Probably.

Yes, I can see the screw holding the cd caddy in - they just want to taunt you I think - the designers that is! - worse than an MFI flatpack! - still at least I didn't have any screws leftover after refitting it!!

My experience of laptopsis that you remove 1 screw and the CD drive will just slide out of the side. This is the case with my HP one anyway. Does the replacement not come with any instructions to replace it?
