MS Excel Query

I've hit a block when trying to get a figure to show in a different workbook from the one I'm working on....

What I'm doing is producing a month by month list of how much our company has quoted then total it all up. What I'm then trying to do is copy this final 'totalled' figure onto the last workbook which is the whole year on a final page. I'm trying to achieve a way of getting the final 'total' figure to always correspond to the final figure on its relevent month. (hope I'm not loosing you here)

ie. - If the end of May says £500, then the figure on the 'year total' page says £500. If Mays figure changes to say £600, then this alteration changes automatically on the 'year total' page.

I know it can be done, as I've had it set up before to do this, but now it doesn't....

I think you select cell you want to reproduce, copy, select the place you want it to go, then select paste special, and paste link.

Do you want me to email you an example?

In the final book put something equivalent to the follwing in the cell that you want to contain the value.

=[Book1]Sheet1!$A$1

ie "=[bookname] sheetname cellname" without the spaces

It could be a calculation issue.

Tools - Options - Calculation - Set to Automatic

Unless you've got a nice big workbook and a recalculate takes about 2 hours, then leave it off.....

wot dannyB said - once you get used to typing manually in the code then it's quicker than messing with the MS menus...
