It all depends on how much you want (or are willing) to spend. I use Sony MRD-EX71 s (which also come in white if youfeel the need) which are fully in-ear and block the outside world rather well for around 30 quid (I think). For a bit more money, the Shure EC3s are rather good and then you start to look at the professional monitor quality ones which are probably overkill. You can also get noise-cancelling ones from the likes of Sony and Philips which are rather good but use batteries (they are excellent on long flights for example to drown out screaming kids and the engine drone)

The Apple in-ear ones are also quite good (better than the normal ones) but overpriced in my opinion.

Etymotic ER4P are the best earphones you can buy for a portable device.

I reckon you'd have to spend thousands to beat them for listening to HiFi at home too.

The Shure EC3s were what I was looking at earlier I must admit, but couldn't find any reviews from people that had bought them.

Thanks for that, will now search net for right price

I have the Sures and they were OK but now have the etymotic 6i's which are cheaper than the ER4s (and not as good) but more than good enough with an IPOD.

These are excellent - small size and great sound. Won't break the bank either...
