What about.....

Presently using a sony 750i which has been a complete disaster, i'm on 4th replacement from orange. It constantly locks up. I have been offerred a choice of new phone from orange. I quite like the look of the N80. Has anyone got any experience of these or recommend alt phone.

Cheers

Pete

I used to own a Dell Axim with a Bluetooth CF card and a SirfStar III Bluetooth GPS receiver which I sold here on YD earlier this year. The plan was to move it on and buy one of the new Tomtom 910 standalone GPS navigation systems but when they finally arrived, the reviews were less than flattering so I decided to pass. Instead, I took the opportunity to upgrade my other PDA - a Palm Pilot - to a Palm T5 complete with colour screen, bluetooth etc.

Now the Palm's may not technically be as powerful as the PocketPC platform but - for me at least - I prefer them for one reason - I can run GUE's DPlan dive planning software on them. I've now bought another SirfSTAR III bluetooth GPS receiver which I use with Tomtom 5 on the Palm T5. It's identical to the version I had on the Dell Axim but it seems a lot more reliable.

To be honest, I like the idea of having all this stuff on one device - my Palm will navigate me to a dive site, plan my dive, let me play a game on the way out to the wreck and then let me view any photos and video clips that I capture on my digital camera on its large 320 x 480 resolution screen just by plugging the camera's SD memory card into the Palm's SD card slot. Plus, of course, it's a pretty good organiser too with all the usual functions like address book, calendar etc.

Palm's tend to be a bit cheaper than PocketPCs too - I picked up my T5 on ebay for around £100 delivered. Obviously you have to add the cost of the GPS receiver to this - I bought mine on ebay for £40 - plus, of course, the cost of Tomtom 5...

strange that, I had one from work and was fine for the 18months I had it, but one of my colleagues had no end of problems with his- maybe bad batch.

I liked it so much when I left them I bought one to use as my personal mobile.

I've got one of these - which has the GPS built in. It has been faultless and I wouldn't want to live without it.
