Red face Help with new ADSL Modem

OK, so received my new talktalk ADSL modem yesterday, and straightaway realised that it's USB with no ethernet ports - I already have a Linksys wireless broadband router so have gathered that I cannot use the USB modem with my existing setup.
What are my options - should I check to see if they (talktalk) do a replacement ethernet modem? Any suggestions of the easiest way around this much appreciated.
Regards
Martin

Hi,

Your existing router should be OK......... can you configure the connection user name and password on it?

The only way I can think of with your current setup is to share the internet connection on your PC. This will make it available to the wireless but you have to keep your PC on all the time. I ran like this for a little while but then bought an ADSL wireless router.

I don't want to run it that way, especially as my son spends half his life on his PC playing games/downloading stuff - if he wants a virus, then I'd rather he kept it to himself!
I guess a n ADSL modem with an ethernet port is the best option - I shall try talktalk tomorrow and see if they can help before I start trawling through eBay for one.
Thanks anyway
Regards
Martin

The router only has ethernet ports (1 in/4 out), so there is no way (that I can see) that I can connect the modem to the router.
I am currently using the router with my NTL connection (through TV set-top box) which has an ethernet port in it, so that works a doddle, but I just can't see how it will work with USB.
Regards
Martin

Im on my third Broadband account and have a collection of unused USB broadband modems ... i just reconfigure my wireless router when I change accounts. worked with wanadoo, broadband and now tiscali. Talk Talk should be able to give you the settings they use and Linksys help desk should be able to help you reconfigure the router to utilise these settings.

You don't need to use the USB modem....... just reconfigure your existing router for the new connection....

you should be able to log onto it using an IP address in the browser window - then use your instruction book to change the connection settings to your new ones....

does this make sense?

Not really no

It's only a broadband router (Linksys WRT54G), and the new connection comes down the phoneline - how can I get from the filter to the router as the connections are diifferent?
I guess I'm missing something here, so any help gratefully received.
Regards
Martin

OK I've checked it out....... this will be fine to use with your connection. It just needs connecting to your phone line and reconfiguring.

I'm assumn you have your router connected to youe phone line already - or is it connected to a special port as you are using cable?

Chris
It currently connects via an ethernet cable to the set-top box - this is the first phoneline broadband I've had.
How do I connect from mini phone connector to ethernet?
All that came with the modem was two microfilters and a phone cable (small fittings) - are there filters for ethernet?
Sorry, have never needed to do anything other than set up protection/add MAC IDs etc.
Regards
Martin
