| Hi Guys I want to connect my Vytec to my laptop, but the new laptops do not have serial ports. I was wondering if anyone has had any experiance with these kind of adapters: USB 2.0 to RS232 ADAPTER (9 pin) Serial [RS232-A] : HDMI TV Cables, USB / Firewire / Networking Cables / Computer Accessories and More - Cable Universe Which change serial to USB, I have heard many stories of them not working with some items and just wondered if dive computers fell into that. Secondly, you can get them on e-bay easy enough, and cheaper tha the one above obviously, but does anyone have one laying around they want to get rid off? James

| Hi James, I managed to rip the wires from the serial plug on mine. So I went to THESE guys and bought a full USB cable. Not a problem since, the connection to the Vyper is better than suunto's own! The cable is suitable for Suunto Vyper/Vytec/Cobra dive computers. Be warned though that if you update your version of SDM you MUST back up your previous dive log prior to installation. Otherwise you could lose it all. HTH Paul

| James I bought a USB to serial adapter from eBay for my Sensus Pro and it works like a dream. I'm not sure why the other dive computers have so many problems with these, but I think it's pretty much luck of the draw. Martin |

| I got one of those converters. Then I bought a USB cable from Custom Ideas 'cause the converter didn't hack it.

| Just so everyone else knows: The USB adapters definatel;y do not work with the Vytecs, I tried two versions of the software on three PCs and not a one would detect the dive computer, but for the £6 it cost it was worth a try. James
