Access to Internet via PDA or similar

I've had problems with my laptop, so it's in for repairs.

So no internet acess at home for Mrs. Doo all day (that could be a good thing as the flow of purchases via the web is slowing to a trickle) but, she is looking for a new job, and much of that involves agaencies and sending CV's etc via the internet. I also have no web access in the evening (which can p1ss me off when Mrs Doo is watching some girly thing on the telly, I I can't get to chat with you lot), although you might all be thinking that's it's a good thing I'm not on here all night too!

I've been thinking about getting a PDA or similar to allow some sort of access to the web and so that Mrs Doo can keep up to date with jobs etc.

Any suggestions? No budget in mind either, but it would have to be cheaper than going out and getting a new laptop I suppose...

We have a wireless router at home, if that makes any difference.

Pete

O2 XDA Mini S/QTek 9100

Hi

I have one of these as a work provided PDA. It uses GPRS and Windows Mobile 5 so I can use it as a mobile phone and e-mail device. The e-mail works really well and tends to arrive on the device quicker than on my desk PC. That's the boring stuff.
The good news is that it is also WiFi so when I get home at night it hooks up to my wireless broadband connection and gives me pretty high speed Internet. That means I can be sat in the room pretending to be working when I'm really trawaling through YD. The YD site has PDA specific pages that are just as quick to navigate as on a desktop PC.
If you don't have WiFi at home the GPRS is OK but you wll notice a difference in speed compared to broadband. If you are thinking of WiFi in the future then definitely get a PDA with WiFi.

P.S. it's pants as a mobile phone though as you have to use soft keys to dial.

Cheers Sean,

but I'm not down again 'till the last week(ish) in August... so the lappy should be sorted by then.. but I do still need the PDA thingie.. I think (means Mrs Doo can sort out her stuff and I can go on YD!)

Oh, the twins are still with me (Simons not back for another week or 2) Mrs. Doo is starting to think they are mine... but I keep telling her...

Thanks again

Pete

Is you new phone service provider giving you free access to internet? I had it with 02 but THREE conveneiently didnt tell me I would have to pay a monthly charge to access it. Unless I 'browse' their shite pages which is mainly trying to get me to downlad music videos.

I didn't need to set anything up. I just open up Internet Explorer, type in the YD address and it directs me to Yorkshire Divers - PDA Access. I guess there must be some communication between IE and the web site that says I'm using a PDA. It appears that anly certain web sites do this though.

Cheers
