| Reciprocal Links Not Being Indexed OK, I'm looking to bottom this one out as I've just been asked to verify some links for a customer. Now, I have some code that'll screen scrape for me, verify the link's actually there and send a polite mail if it's not found. All good so far. Not so. I've discovered that although one of my sites in particular has over 600 outbound links with around 75% of these providing validated reciprocal links Google has not indexed any of these reciprocal links. The site's been live for over 2 years. Any ideas...?

| Problem with Google is that it is hit and miss and they never tell the rules up front. If your links are not any good and those back links are not what Google classes as relevant , then you will be blacklisted and not indexed. You need to email the local Google centre with a re-inclusion request. They do not have to and they sometimes don't. Make sure your links are with sites that have good links and ranking. Pro Dive has 12 full time staff working on the site and SEO, plus we spend around £300,000 PA just on keyword and ADWORD advertising and still we sometimes find ourselves out ranked by lesser known sites. It's a dark art!!!!!!

1. Content is king - if your site has no/little content then SEO will always be an uphill struggle. 2. Links need to be relevant. A link that says Golf Clubs, Golf Balls and Golf Accessories is more valuable than Golf Clubs Direct even through they point to the same URL, due to relevant keywords being used in the first example. 3. Clean code wins the day - W3C complaint code stands more chance of higher rankings than dirty Dreamweaver produced twaddle. The site might look the same but the underlying code is crappy. 4. CSS not tables 5. CSS not tables - I know I've said this before but I felt it important enough to say it again 6. Reciprocal links - this does NOT mean link farms. This means finding sites that are, themselves, highly ranked and getting them to link to you USING KEYWORDS, not site name. 7. CSS again - learn your tags and what they do for you. Code: <b>, <title>, <img>, <h1>, <h2> 8. Make your text keyword rich - if they are in your <meta> keywords they MUST be on that page. Also, if you have more than one page (and why wouldn't you), are your pages <meta> tags relevant for each page or are they all the same? 9. Internal links using CSS (again!!) - write a CSS class that allows you to link text keywords internally - to other pages in your site - while not displaying the usual cursoe, underline, color changes a link normally has on a website. 10. Do not rely on one form of SEO only - its a muddle of all of the above and more. 11. Google are a law onto themselves - their model is currently 'experiencing inconsistencies' from hour to hour so concentrate on getting high results in altavista, MSN and ask.com - and GET THOSE RECIPROCAL LINKS Here endeth the lesson - now who do I invoice?
