| After many years of glitchy, slow, tiresome and crash filled computing I bit the bullet yesterday and after much research bought myself a very sexy Imac. Now I know there are a couple of things that it won't do, but I have to say that at the moment having been on one for a while (my best friend has had one a bit longer than me) I am finding that it is one great bit of kit, being reliable and easy to use. Are there any YD mac users who can share some websites and tips on the best use I can get out of a mac (running OSx). All help and any tips and tricks will be much appreciated!!

Graphicconvertor - image manipulation great batch facility for converting all those raw images from your underwater camera to jpegs. transmit great ftp client. Regards John R |

| Many thanks guys. Keep em coming. I have been playing around with this new toy of mine for a few hours now, since getting it yesterday, and to say I aimpressed is an understatement. Totally hassle free. The widgets are handy, all my 3rd party hardware is found and works with no hassle, and when something does crash it doesn't take the whole world with it. Well........once you've tried Mac, you can't go back!!!! ![]()

| Welcome to the world of NO viruses, No crashes and get used to plugging things in and just having them work. Is you are a unix freak the install a copy of fink (cmd line util) this will allow access to all the original BSD open source software, apache for example for running a website etc. etc. I'm sure you'd played with iPhoto and this now includes iWeb to export to a web site. If you have an xbox360 get a copy of Connect360 to share your photo's and iTunes music across your network to the 360. Great for the family to see your dive pics fromt the lounge. |

| now connect 360 is an interesting idea. I will do that as it will be one more way of blaring Iron Maiden round the house. I love this machine though........I have had it a little over a week, and so far no crashes, no lockups and no hassle. I should have got one of these years ago!! J

| As its an intel based machine you can install windows on it as well, if you have a peice of software that really is windows only. And you can boot from either at startup. Look for Bootcamp on Apples website. If this is too much trouble install Virtual PC or Parallel, which are machine emulators like vmware etc. (but not freeware) you can boot windows in this environment and use both Mac and Windows at same time. Now this is nothing new but this machine is fast enough so that its actual usable. FE |
