Question ipod suggestions???

Ok, I have got a 6gb mini ipod and currently have 1223 tracks on it - I know that I will only be able to get about another 100 on before its full

I am in the process of dumping my entire CD collection onto my computer and getting rid of a few, but I know this will overload my already bulging pod!!

Do I bite the bullit and treat my self to a new 30gb or 60gb ipod??? I do like the idea of being able to store music, videos and pictures on the new ones but not sure if I can justify £250 for one

Any ideas anyone????

Jack

Ps - unless they are tax free in CI of course, ST?????

Plus there's all the other cool things you can do.

- Rip dvd's to your iPod.
- Add recordings from your Tivo or PVR to the iPod
- Buy a camera connector and when on long trips upload from your Digi Camera to your ipod to free your Camera card space. Also you can grab everyone else's pics from their camera if they have a USB cable.

Bite the bullet.

I got myself a black 60gb ipod. It now has all my cd's and about 50% of my mp3's on it with about 40gb left to play with. I can't say I have tried video yet so no report there. The big advange I found is from a little box that plugs into it. This box lets you plug a digital camera into the ipod via the camera's usb lead. It will then download your picture storing them in time and dated folders or as it calls them rolls, just like using film again. You then have the option to errase your camera's card. So now when I go on my holiday's I don't need to take a laptop. I have all the music, possibly videos I'll have to check that bit out and I can download my camera. That's about 6kg of luggage saved, woohoo! more dive equipment.

Smile

Now on 1270 tracks

Am liking the suggestions - all helps with my conscience especially as I had not considered the camera option, just thought I would have to cart my laptop everywhere

Looks like I am just gonna have to bite the bullet

Wink

I've got the 30Gb ipod and I think its the dogs dangly bits. My only gripe is...I wish I had the 60Gb as I've nearly filled it!

On a more serious note, one of my colleagues has the Sony player and the software is utter pants.

So...Go on do it, you know you want to!

I know I want to, have been surfing ebay and they are all from china or japan and look like a complete scam - I mean 60 euros and a feedback score of 10 all for the same thing that costs nothing from dodgy name who all link to each other?????

Does the camera bit come with it?????

Ps 1299 tracks now

2 words of caution on the camera connector

1) it will only work with those models on the compatible list. My Sea & Sea DX5000G does not

2) the copying of your pics/movie clips from camera to ipod is a heavy drain on batteries for both devices. Don't try and do 1Gb in one go as the battery may run out before it finishes - backup a little and often!

I'd recommend looking at the Belkin Media Reader device as an alternative:-

1) separate AAA batteries, which means you're not hammering the camera batteries and they can be on charge whilst you backup the photos off your card
2) reads a variety of cards, so no worries about whether the camera is on the compatibility list.

They're listed at quite a higher price than the camera connector, but I got mine reduced in Currys.

If you want a 2nd hand Camera Connector - PM me with an offer, as I don't use mine.

Finally, get the 60gb version.
I've not finished ripping all my music, but the collection now stands at 6,000+ tracks and takes just over half of the capacity, so I've still room for photos.

PS: if you're just building up your ripped collection - think about using a format that is compatible with other players, and is not iPod specific. I'm using MP3 at 192kbps, which means I can drop them onto other devices in future and I'm not locked into Apple.

be very wary of buying this kind of thing off ebay - it's ripe for scamming.

If you're going near an airport in the future, you can get ipods at a good price from Dixons Tax Free
