Writing macros for word.

I don't know how feasible this is but I wondered if anyone on here is experienced at writing macros within microsoft office.

Specifically what I want to do is to be able to automatically track page numbers across multiple word documents. My PhD thesis is currently split between about 8 documents and it would be really useful if when I changed the number of pages in one of them the page numbers automatically changed in all the documents.

Tis my own stupid fault really - I should have used LaTex to produce my thesis but instead I used Word.

Any ideas?

Si

Have you looked into the Master and Subdocument feature? It may help. I know it was a bit flaky in earlier versions of Word but they may have sorted that out now. What version of Word are you using?

I have written Word macros in the past so i may be able to help. PM me if you like.

EDIT: just tried an experiment in Word 2003 - page numbering seems to work fine accros subdocuments inserted into a master. Might be worth a try. (Back-up first though )

I'll have a look at the master and subdocument option. Don't worry - I currently have about four backups of the thesis stashed in different places. I've sweated blood to get this far and I'll be damned if I'm going to lose it.

If I don't have any luck I'll send you a PM.
