| Networking via crossover cable For past couple of years I have been using this system to connect the main computer downstairs with my laptop upstairs. This has worked fine allowing me access to my broadband connection and printer on both computers although it is necessary to have the main computer switched on. My lad is moving back home temporarily so is it possible to use a two way connector/splitter box at the end of the cable run to allow him to use his laptop in his bedroom.

| Why not just buy a cheap router? That way you don't have to leave any other computers switched on. |

| You can even get a nice router / firewall combo with an integrated switch. That way you are also protected from the nasties of the internet as if you're directly connected into your cable modem you're directly on the internet with no protection. (Windows Firewall ISN'T adequate protection. I've seen it easily bypassed). Mark.
