Question Windoze meejah player - update tags?

I'm struggling with Windows media player and I prostrate myself on the altar of the YD technical gods for advice ...

my new mp3 player uses the tags to organise the library. Not a problem, I thought, as most of my MP3's are properly tagged.

But not all, I found.

And the ones that are tagged, well, some of them are badly tagged, so I have to search thorugh 15 artists to find the one I want, and then I miss half the tracks off an album if they have anything in the "composer" tag.

So I've spent hours in various hotel rooms over the last couple of weeks editing nearly 2000 MP3 tags in just the way I want them.

Set up my 20gig player to resync everything the other night ... and it's used the same tags it has always had. My guess is that it has an internal metadata store which it is using in preference to the ID3 tags on the actual files.

SO ... I have 2000 or so tracks with ID3 tags just the way I like them, but WMP is ignoring those tags. How can I force it to clear it's internal store or update it with the ones I want?

Thanks in anticipation ...

Andy

Have you tried sacrificing a chicken with a sacred keyboard and reading it's entails to get your answer?

I would use Tag&Rename to retag everything, THEN reimport the tunes, It works really well. Of course it does cost to register, but you can label a load of tags before you have to pay.

Mp3 tag editor - Tag&Rename

It is very good for that all important "album artist" tag which is the one that media player uses that virtually nothing else does (If you have ever started using XP media centre with music ripped from another app you will find this aspect VERY frustrating!)

The other thing to remember is that there are often 2 sets of tags, ID3v1 & ID3v2. I had the same problem where one program was setting one of the tags, but the mp3 player was using the other set.

Someone's already mentioned a program called Tag&Rename (you can get a copy from Mp3 tag editor - Tag&Rename) - this'll let you switch between the tags so you can see the differences, and more importantly it'll let you sync both sets of tags so that they hold the same info.

I could be wrong but I suspect that this is what's causing the problem - if only since I had the same thing!

thanks for this guys - Greens all round (even Stesh, as you made me chuckle).

I'm giving this Samsung heap of trash one more go before I sling it on eBay and buy an iPod.

Try this - this the mutts nutts.

Mp3tag - the universal Tag Editor (ID3v1, ID3v2, APEv2)

Quick and easy - takes a bit of getting used to but it's brilliant.
