Question A device to play mp3s on my home system

Is there such a product?

I would like a device that connects to my home system amplifier ( i have seperates) and can either access all my mp3 files from off my pc or holds all the mp3 and has a connection to my pc for adding, deleting, general management etc....

Ideally the device would be controllable without having to use the PC to select etc.....

Any thoughts

Mark

I use Netgear MP101 (well, I have 3 of the buggers!). They work quite well with only very occasional breaks in WiFi connection.

I've read a couple of reviews on this one, bit hit and miss with the reviews but I take it that because you have three you're happy with it.

I can't comment on any of the others, but I have been considering this.

I have a Squeezebox from Slim Devices : Transporter & Squeezebox : Free your music! and it is fantastic. A breeze to set up and it sounds fantastic.

The access to Internet Radio stations is also very nice.

I had one of the older versions and was quite pleased with it. But you need to hook it up to a TV since there is no user interface on the device itself. The reason I "moved it on" was that it only did certain video format playbacks.

In the end I put a PC under the tele with a TV card in it and that plays and stores music; plays DVDs; shows, pauses and records TV; stores photos etc; it's hooked up to the surround sound amp for that full cinema experience then I have an XBOX 360 hooked up to a separate TV, connected wirelessly to the TV PC which extends all that functionality to the other TV. Pricey but very nice.

My Wife bought a CD player and uses that instead.....

Mark,

I've got a Showcentre and had it about 3 years now. If you want to know all about it I will be at Wreysbury on Wednesday evening so I can give the low down then.
