Free (House) Planning / CAD Software???

I'm looking for some freeware or shareware to draw up some Planning Permission Plans for The New Shed.

Has anyone got any suggestions before I start trawling the web / do it in Powerpoint

Some of the magazines have a free CD which has the s/w you need. Sadly the stuff we use at work is abit expensive. See if you can get a free/demo version of AutoCad (2D), an old version is often available free as an intro to a new(er) version. We are on Acad 2006 here, plus a full blown 3D suite (PDMS) which you wont want.

I dont do house plans by the way, sorry.

Rgds
Matt

Thanks for the thought, but I just need to tidy up some drawings. The house has been extended in the past, and I have those drawings, but very small. However they have the measurements on them so it shouldn't be too hard to redraw them and add on The New Shed.

Have you checked you need Planning Permission. Most detached stores/sheds dont need consent unless they are over 4m high at any point.

You can buy some basic house plan software at places like Staples for around £10. Most cheap software wont produce what you need though.

Why not hand draw it using an old fashioned pencil and paper probably quicker, cheaper and easier.

It's a little more than a shed. More of a garage. But it will still be a Shed in name. I do need PP, as the existing extension means we don't have any permitted development rights.

Pen and paper is good except I can't draw for toffee.

Surely you can manage some straight lines on graph paper?

I use computers all the time, yet find doing even the simplest stuff in CAD takes ages - I just don't use it enough. Maybe 2-3 days a year!

You could be wasting your time doing it on the PC.

Well, it is cheap stuff and it comes almost from the local gardening store, but it works fine and it's very solid. We tried to destroy one by hitting it with a hammer... we succeeded but we really had to hit it hard - http://www.stde.ch/en/faq.php

If you can scan in and email it, I could knock you up a Cad drawing in about 10 mins ????
