MP3 or IPOD?
Hi folks, christmas is a comin and ickle sean (age 9 and 3/4) has started to give me his prezzie list.

Top of the list so far is a portable musical device that he can put his cd's on and download from the interweb, problem is i know nothing about these and a google will just baffle me with alot of bullshit. Question to you is then, should i be lookin at an ipod or mp3 player? are they the samething anyway? what are decent makes and what should be avoided? we are thinkin of cappin his budget to £200 this year cos we usually spend far too much on crap he never uses, so i reckon we need to spend 80 -100 quid ish on his music player

any thoughts?

Ipod mate don't waste your time with the others itunes is so easy even you could use it . IMHO they are the best mp3 on the market

I've had one for over 3 years now no problems at all with it my girlfriend uses it daily the other one is 2 years old and again no problems ones a 40gig the other a 60gig. I'm trying to justify why i need one of those sleek new video ones though.

I have one of these Chinese Ipod copies:

eBay.co.uk: NEW MP3 MP4 FM VIDEO PHOTO PMP PLAYER 2GB LCD-BLACK (item 290035799966 end time 03-Oct-06 23:00:00 BST)

I got it for a fiver and £10 postage from Hong kong. It's brilliant, LCD screen, plays MP3&4 & WMA, video, e-books, jpegs and it has a radio. Very easy to use too.

dont bother with the video ipod. you wont watch the videos and it eats the battery about 8 times faster than the none video.

Oh dear, I happen to watch the videos in the boring occasions when travelling. Although I found I could only download them from the US site.

Creative - better than iPod - at least the software was, or iPod wouldn't have made a hooky copy of it

Cheaper, get the Zen Micro and the batteries are replaceable so you don't have to bin the whole thing whent he battery dies. 6Gb is waaaay enough for most people, especially if you convert the music to the smaller files. Even as MP3 you are talking hundreds and hundreds of tracks and podcasts.

Tempted by one of these. What connection sockets does it have on it? USB? Does it have a slot for XD card by any chance? Wanting to use it as storage for digital photos when away from PC but not sure if I'd be able to transfer from camera or card to it...?
